BON CHIEN’s training department are members of the “American Pet Dog Training Association,” (APDT), and our trainer manager, Oscar is a CERTIFIED PET DOG TRAINER ( CPDT) and worked as a professional certified guide dog trainer at “The Seeing Eye” for 5 years.


Our training philosophy is based on the concept of the APDT positive training methods through reinforcement and rewards to achieve the desired behavior. We specialize in behavioral problems and obedience for your pet companion dogs. We also specialize in training and shaping behaviors with The CLICKER ("Clicker training" is an animal training method based on behavioral psychology that relies on marking desirable behavior and rewarding it.)

Why does your dog need training?

Communication is essential in any relationship. You don't speak "Doglish," and your dog doesn't speak your language. Training offers more than the ability to have your dog “sit” on command, it establishes a bond between you and your dog and develops the respect that is needed for a healthy relationship, and increases your dog's confidence and understanding of what is expected of him.

BON CHIEN training services range from a simple consultation to complex modifications. Each pet has a different personality and temperament and for that, training techniques differ. Not only is the pet's training important but most importantly the needs and goals of the owner. All our services are tailored towards the individual's life style.

We offer various training programs dependent on the needs of you and your dog. Our extensive experience in evaluating the nature of your pet allows us to apply the proper training methods in order to achieve success, whether your dog exhibits signs of aggression or insecurity or simply needs to understand what is expected of him. We know your relationship with your dog is important to you. It's our goal to see that you have a long and happy life together.

Evaluations

Sometimes it's best to have your dog evaluated before deciding what training program would be best, especially with dogs that suffer from insecurity, protectiveness or aggressive behavior. This consultation can be extremely important in determining the nature of your dog as well as give you a better understanding of what type of trainers we are. We want you to trust us for who we are and not simply because we call ourselves trainers.

We can learn a lot about your dog by seeing him or her outside of his natural environment. Additionally, we will get a better feel for what type of relationship you currently have with your dog, You will feel secure in knowing we are offering the best training program based upon your individual needs and the needs of your dog.

What to bring to class:
A copy of recent vaccinations.
Please bring your dog's favorite treats and toys to class to use as a reward.
A 6'leash. No retractable leashes, please.
A flat collar, martingale collar, or gentle leader. Choke and prong/pinch collars are not allowed. These items are also available in the boutique section of the BON CHIEN store.
